It is co-produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov and animated by Attitude Studio (in Luxembourg) and by Starz Animation (in Toronto), with a few sequences done by Duncan Studios in LA. The film can boast a nice voice cast with: Elijah Wood, Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly and Crispin Glover. 9 will be released on September 9, 2009, yes; that's 9.9.9!
Enjoy below the first official 9 trailer:
Plot:
"When 9 (Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them."
9 is is actually a feature-length adaptation of Shane Acker's short film of the same name. Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov have been conquered by those doll-like creatures and their post-apocalyptic world, and so decided to produce a real movie.
Although CGI, the 9 movie has a stylized look resembling stop motion: it is hauntingly beautiful!
If you're wondering about the explosive soundtrack of this 9 trailer it's the song 'Welcome Home' by Coheed and Cambria.
